President João Lourenço heads to Cuanza Norte

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, left Luanda this Saturday, bound for the province of Cuanza Norte, in order to find out about the evolution of the construction works of the Caculo-Cabaça Hydroelectric Facility.

At the Luanda Air Base, the Angolan Head of State received farewell greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, members of the Executive and senior officials in his office.

President João Lourenço will take part in the operation in which the River Kwanza will be diverted from its bed, according to the spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Luís Fernando.

He informed that the Angolan Head of State will activate the mechanism that will start the diversion of the waters of the river, moment that will be marked with the unveiling of a plaque.

João Lourenço returns to the country’s capital yesterday.

The Caculo-Cabaça hydroelectric project, launched in 2017, will produce 2,172 Megawatts (MW). It will have five turbines, four of which in the main plant, with a nominal capacity of 530 MW each and one in the ecological plant, with a capacity of 52 MW.

The use will form part of a range of dams built in the middle Kwanza, including those at Cambambe (Cuanza Norte), Capanda and Laúca (Malanje).
