Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial governor of Cunene, said this Tuesday, the requalification of some zones of the city of Ondjiva (capital seat), aiming to give greater dignity to the residents and improve the image of the urban center.
Gerdina Didalelwa made this statement on the sidelines of fieldwork carried out throughout the urban core, with particular emphasis on the airport perimeter, Avenida 11 de Novembro, stop 4/ Oshamukuio, Naipalala, Cachila II, Ougwé and Castilhos neighbourhoods.
According to the governor, the aim of the work was to take an X-ray of the city, in order to verify the problems of anarchic constructions, water points and drainage ditches that are obstructed.
“We are doing this work in the dry season, in order to avoid complaints of flooding due to obstruction of rainwater lines”, he underlined.
He said they were constructions made along the main road and some at rainwater crossing points that need to be removed, in which some are oriented to paralyze the works.
However, the official expressed her indignation with the high number of small sheet metal and motorized workshops, service stations, retreading shops, barbershops, block factories, among others built with zinc sheets and other precarious materials along the main roads.
Without going into detail, the leader stated that the execution of these works initially involves the elaboration of related studies.
He said that the objective is to reclassify the city as it is a cross-border province that daily registers the movement of national and foreigners who can lead to a bad image of Angola.
In this regard, he stressed that an ultimatum was given to those constructions that have distorted the architectural image of the city, built with precarious material and without proper authorization.
“It cannot be admitted that any citizen, at his pleasure, builds in a space that he wants, without at least being authorized and conditions for a dignified work”, he emphasized.
Self-directed construction in Ongwé
However, the governor made it known that the process of subdivision of land for self-directed construction and resettlement of some families that will be displaced in risky areas is underway.
“We are preparing a space that is being infrastructured, with street layout and guaranteeing the delivery of land, which will be distributed to those citizens who intend to build with a request from the municipal administration”, he said.
These are more than three thousand plots of land, in the Ongwe area, east of the city of Ondjiva.
Gerdina Didalelwa argued that the project aims to reverse the wave of anarchic constructions, where each citizen builds their own house, making it impossible to carry out other projects and basic services such as schools, health center, water pipe system and electricity.
However, those targeted in the process of anarchic constructions pointed out the problems of bureaucracy and slowness in the processing of documents that make it possible to legalize the spaces.
The city of Ondjiva, capital of the province of Cunene, currently has 95 thousand, 628 inhabitants distributed in 24 districts.
