Africa-Press – Angola. A Business Council composed of the Angola-Algeria Chambers of Commerce and Industry and vice versa will soon be created with the aim of boosting economic relations between the two countries, as well as increasing business volume, 50 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The information was released to the press on Thursday, in Luanda, by the Algerian ambassador to Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, Mounir Bourouba, who stated that despite the excellent relations, the volume of business between the two nations is still below expectations, which currently stands at US$30 million.
At a press conference that served to announce the holding of the 4th edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), to take place from 4 to 10 September in Algeria, the diploma explained that the mentioned Business Council will allow them to identify priority sectors for cooperation and strengthen relations between economic operators.
Furthermore, he said that negotiations are underway for agreements in several areas relevant to both countries, such as agriculture, energy, tourism, transportation and training, with the aim of boosting trade exchanges.
Mounir Bourouba said a plan is also underway to open an Algeria-Luanda air route as a way to stimulate business.
Diplomatic relations between Angola and Algeria are historic and strong, marked by mutual support during the struggle for Angola’s independence and ongoing cooperation in different areas.
The two countries are working to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas such as politics, defence, economics, trade and mineral resources.
Currently, Algeria, which is part of the Maghreb region in North Africa, exports construction materials and steel to Angola, among other products.
