Illegal immigration poses a threat to national security

Africa-Press – Angola. The “silent invasion” of the country by illegal immigrants, across the border that delimits the province of Zaire with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), was pointed out this Friday in Mbanza Kongo as one of the threats to National security.

Added to this, the fraudulent acquisition of national citizenship documents (Identity Cards and Passports) by foreigners, indicate the conclusions of the 29th National Defense course, which took place for five days in the capital of the province of Zaire.

The 82 participants in this training action, promoted by the National Defense Institute (IDN), also concluded that there was a need to re-equip the defense and public order forces in the region with modern technical and technological means, in order to face these and other possible threats.

On the other hand, those involved in this training activity highlighted the presence, in the province, of a military command of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and of provincial, municipal commands and police stations in the six municipalities and in the main border posts with the neighboring country

The course considered that there were more potentialities than vulnerabilities in the province of Zaire in terms of national security, with emphasis on its mineral, cultural, human and natural resources, among others.

The event served to promote a space for information, reflection and debate on current issues of national and international interest with a focus on security and defense.

Contributing to the promotion of a culture of National Defense and patriotic attitudes, promoting civil and military society’s awareness of security and defense issues were also among the objectives.

Various topics were taught throughout this training course by general officers, admirals, commissioners and superiors of the FAA and the National Police, staff from the local State administration, external collaborators of the IDN and academics.

On the occasion, the deputy governor of Zaire for the political, social and economic sector, Afonso Nzolameso, said that the national defense and security bodies constitute one of the most important institutions of the Angolan State.

He pointed to the smuggling of fuel to the DRC, violent crime, illegal immigration, among others, as phenomena that have put national sovereignty at risk, and therefore called for a close fight against such practices.

He added that the fight against these evils should be complemented with rigorous actions by the justice administration bodies in the region to put an end to possible feelings of impunity and a spirit of negligence.

“We recognize that it is a difficult task, because it requires people committed to the Motherland, which is why, each one, at their level and in their work post, must assume their responsibilities with commitment and dedication”, he reinforced.

The vice-governor also spoke of juvenile delinquency, which in his opinion tends to reach alarming proportions in the province, which is why he asked for the maximum cooperation of the population in denouncing criminal practices to the competent authorities.

The National Defense Institute (IDN) is a State body under the Ministry of Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, with the mission of studying, researching, investigating, raising awareness and disseminating matters related to national defense, as well as supporting the Executive in the formation of national strategic thinking.
