Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministry of Energy and Water and the Government of the Province of Cabinda are working to integrate the city into the national energy grid, via submarine cable, informed, on Friday, the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges.

According to the minister, who did not reveal the costs of this important project, the connection will be made through an undersea cable that will depart from the municipality of Soyo, province of Zaire.

According to João Baptista Borges, the project is at the tender stage.

Until next June of this year, he added, the company that will install the equipment will be selected over a period that could last around two years.

“This project is going to be carried out. It is an ambitious, sure and expensive project, but the benefits for Cabinda are great, with the advantages of a significant increase in energy capacity, without fuel consumption”, points out the official, also sustaining other benefits such as support companies and economic projects underway in the province.

On the occasion, the governor of Cabinda, Mara Quiosa, stressed that the project will have “immeasurable” gains for the province, since the current equipment that produces energy is highly dependent on fuel (diesel and gas), with a record of casualties in delivery. of these fuels, causing constraints at the Malembo Thermal Power Station.

Confident, he referred that, with connection to the national energy network, the province will be in better conditions to respond to local needs and in conditions to support the demand derived from the large investments and projects that are underway.

During the visit, the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, assessed the site where the Cabinda solar power plant will be built, with a capacity of 90 megawatts, a project that could cost around US$100 million.
