Africa-Press – Angola. The leader of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World (Tocoísta) and the Theosophical Spiritist Church (ITE), on Thursday in Luanda, reaffirmed their commitment as partners of the State to working with young people to promote social moralization, empowering them to maintain peace and resolve conflicts.
The commitment was made after separate audiences granted by the Vice President of the Republic, Esperança Costa, to the two religious leaders namely Bishop Dom Afonso Nunes and prophetess Suzeth João.
Speaking to the press, Bishop Dom Afonso Nunes announced that the church will hold a meeting on Saturday that hopes to bring together 3,000 young people from various municipalities, communities and religious institutions in the province of Luanda to listen to them and understand their real concerns.
The cleric made clear that the church, as a partner of the State, has several professional training projects for young people, aiming to reduce unemployment and help them find jobs or start their own businesses.
“We offer courses in computer science, agriculture, electrical engineering, electricity, carpentry and more,” he informed.
To him, the Tocoista church confirms the State’s commitment to finding solutions to the challenges faced, especially by youth, considered the most vulnerable.
In turn, prophetess Suzeth João pointed out that during the meeting with the Vice President of the Republic, she reviewed issues related to the recent acts of vandalism, looting and rioting, and also regarding the need to educate the church to work on moralizing society to pacify spirits, especially among the youth.
She added that she took the opportunity to present some projects of the church related to the work of moralizing societies and caring for the education of people in various fields.
“The church also came to contribute, above all, to the education of families because of the human mind, which is somewhat disrupted by all the other situations,” she reaffirmed, emphasizing that it will continue to care for and bring peace and love to the minds and hearts of society.
According to the Angolan prophetess, at the occasion she presented to the Vice President some proposals regarding basic sanitation, agriculture, farming, training in social support, reinforcement of basic food baskets and financing.
Regarding the acts of vandalism that have occurred in recent days in some provinces of the country, religious representatives were unanimous in denouncing the excesses, defending the democratic right to protest but rejecting any form of destruction, as “protesting does not mean vandalizing.”
The main causes due to social discontent include unemployment, hunger and insecurity. Therefore, leaders called for urgent attention to these structural issues.
Also on Thursday, the Vice President of the Republic received an audience with Reverend Gedeão Panzo, leader of the Pentecostal Assembly of God Church Minister Ebenezer, with whom she discussed social issues and their challenges to society.
The religious leader defended the need to fight to preserve the common good, which is peace, preserve and maintain the State’s heritage, and work with young people to provide them with civic-oriented education.
The leader of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in the Episcopal District of South-Central Africa, Bishop Bernardo João Ngunza, who also met with the vice president, said they discussed issues related to poverty alleviation and education.
He emphasized that the African Methodist Church has developed agricultural cooperatives in 13 municipalities in Malanje province to alleviate family hunger.
Bishop Bernardo João Ngunza also revealed that the church has been concerned with issues related to education, in addition to providing scholarships to some citizens.
