Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB) has confirmed the city of Benguela to host the second edition of AFROCAN ́2023, to be held from 8 to 16 July in the country.
According to the vice-president of the FAB, Sílvio Lemos, who was speaking about the preparation conditions of the National Team, the institution of the modality requested the provinces of Luanda, Huila and Benguela, to host the competition, only the latter responded positively.
In terms of infrastructure, in addition to the Matrindindi pavilion, the city of Benguela has Acácias Rubras, with a capacity of 2,500 seated spectators, built to host one of the Afrobaket2007 series, and the first Qualifying Window for the Asia/2023 World Cup .
In this second edition of AFROCAN, Angola is looking to improve the third position in 2019, in Mali, in which the selection of the Democratic Republic of Congo was the winner.
AFROCAN is a recent competition organized by FIBA for the national teams of the African continent, which takes place every four (4) years. It was created to promote and develop African basketball.
The important initiative aims to encourage the growth of basketball on the African continent and provide a competitive platform for local players to demonstrate their talent in an international environment.
As for the senior men’s National Team (B), the improvement of physical aspects marked, Thursday, in Luanda, the beginning of its preparation, aiming at the African competition reserved for players who play in domestic championships.
Over a period of about an hour, in the Cidadela pavilion, the group, led by coach Aníbal Moreira, focused their session on combined exercises and some launches.
For the coach, the players’ stoppage time, since the end of the National Championship, requires careful preparation, so that the athletes are in good shape by the time of the competition.
The coach informed that the first week of preparation will take place in Luanda, while the second and last one will be in another province, to be indicated by the FAB.
The Angolan team is made up of Emanuel Sebastião, Francisco Gomes, Miguel Maconda, Jose Nseka (bases), Tarcio Domingos, Kenneth Manuel and Ângelo Alexandre (wingers/bases).
The group is completed by Glofate Buiamba, Geovani Kibinga, Bamba Cissé, Kenny Biango, Ednilson Andrade, Domingos Kissingue, Josué Bartolomeu and Marcelo João (Extremes), Kevin Albino, Wilson Kassav, Macachi Brás, Aloisio Andrade and Walter Luzolo (Extremes/poles).
