Africa-Press – Angola. Twenty-seven works by artist Álvaro Macieira are on display, starting today, Friday, until September, in one of the rooms at Shopping Fortaleza.
Entitled “remember” contemporary plasticities”, the exhibition features original works and exhibited for the first time, where the themes of freedom and the originality of Angola are dominant notes.
According to the plastic artist, in statements to the press, the exhibition represents the maturation of his path as an artist.
“The idea is to show the various phases of my work with the variants of techniques that I used for the exhibition”, he said.
Álvaro Macieira made it known that, during these three months of exhibition, the works will be exchanged and visitors will be able to see the artist making some paintings in real time.
“The idea is to have direct contact with visitors and show what day-to-day life is like in a plastic artist’s studio”, he said.
In the paintings, Álvaro Macieira also highlights the importance of African art.
“African masks have always fascinated me, music the playing of drums”, he said.
In painting, the artist presents acrylic on canvas and shows the most varied techniques he has used over the last two decades of his career, composing a synthesis that highlights the pictorial language he developed.
Álvaro Macieira, born in 1958, in the province of Uíge, is a journalist, writer, artist and cultural consultant.
He was Culture Editor at Press, collaborated on Rádio Nacional de Angola, TPA and on the BBC Cultural Tribune – London, in Portuguese.
He is a member of the Union of Angolan Writers and the National Union of Plastic Artists.
He has published three books “Castro Soromenho: Cinco Depoimentos”, “Cantos de Amor” and “Centuries of Love”.
