Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial commander of the National Police (PN) in Cunene, commissioner António Ribeiro, urged, this Sunday, the readiness and arduous dedication of the Rapid Intervention Police (PIR) staff in carrying out the missions.
Speaking at the act alluding to the 31st anniversary of the PIR, marked June 4th, he recalled that this is the body dedicated to the maintenance and restoration of highly complex public order, resolution and management of critical incidents.
According to the commander, it is up to the PIR to carry out tactical interventions in situations of concerted violence, highly dangerous organized crime, risk, security at major events and innovation in explosive devices.
This time, he said that the staff should be in permanent technical, professional and academic training to respond to the expectations of the citizen, in what concerns the maintenance of order and public security.
“We must continue to invest in professionalism, knowledge and the quality of the service provided to citizens, demonstrating operational capacity, not only using force, but with intelligence, competence and mastery”, he underlined.
António Ribeiro also asked for discipline, obedience and respect for the hierarchy of command, as pillars that catalyze the corporation.
He also persuaded the staff to refrain from acts that do nothing to dignify the good name of the corporation, which requires more pedagogical actions from those responsible, not neglecting the use of normative instruments of punishment.
However, he expressed satisfaction with the bravery and determination shown by the forces, which despite the obstacles has achieved positive results in the fulfillment of the missions.
In turn, the acting commander of the PIR in Cunene, Intendente Judite Viamba, said that the body was installed for the first time in the province, in December 2022, with the aim of guaranteeing the assurance of the festive season.
This time he said that the PIR is in a consolidation phase, highlighting the lack of proper infrastructure for its operation and accommodation of the forces, as obstacles that the body faces.
Despite the difficulties, he said that the forces remain firm in fulfilling the missions, to guarantee the assurance and feeling of security to the populations.
Under the motto” With training and ongoing formation, PIR! Ready to disperse disturbances and combat violent criminality”, the act was marked with the imposition of patents, the awarding of certificates to the highlighted staff and trophies to the winning teams of the sports tournaments.
Created in 1992, on the occasion of Pope John Paul II’s visit to Angola, the PIR’s main mission is to prevent delinquency, maintain public order, fight disturbances and guarantee territorial integrity.
