Africa-Press – Angola. The Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, announced this Monday in Luanda the opening of a credit line for Angola, valued at 500 million euros.
According to the Portuguese Head of Government, to the 500 million euros, in the form of loans, is added the still existing balance of 250 million from the previous Strategic Cooperation Program (PEC).
During the official talks, as part of the visit of two to Angola, António Costa stated that the new PEC will continue to favor the traditional areas of Portuguese cooperation, prioritizing economic diversification.
In his speech, he highlighted the extension of the credit line from 1,500 million euros to two billion euros, as “an important instrument for the development of Angola, but also for the activity of Portuguese companies in this country”.
He underlined that the new Strategic Cooperation Program 2023/2027 (PEC) will be associated with a robust financial envelope for the next five years.
The Portuguese official considered the relationship with Angola “solid” and praised the constructive approach of the Angolan Government in the payment of debt to companies in his country.
In the opinion of António Costa, since 2018 “very important steps have been taken (…) so that Portuguese companies can continue to contribute to the diversification of the Angolan economy”.
He assured that Portuguese companies are “fit” to invest in new areas of the Angolan economy, such as agri-food, renewable energies, blue economy, fisheries, tourism and others that Angola defines as priorities”.
