Africa-Press – Angola. The Angola 2050 Long-Term Strategy foresees that the ministerial departments support the education sector, within the framework of enhancing human capital, assured this Thursday the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João.
The main pillar of the Angola-2050 Strategy is based on education, due to its transversality, since its results have a direct impact on the other axes of this plan, such as infrastructure, economic diversification, resilience, sustainability, as well as on the fifth axis, governance and equality for all.
According to the minister, speaking on the sidelines of a consultation meeting with journalists, within the scope of the development of the Angola 2050 Strategy, this plan was conceived as an instrument of development impact, in a chain in the different sectors.
According to the leader, for example, the Ministry of the Interior will be able to promote education services at its different levels of education, so that they can continue their schooling process with guaranteed learning.
The minister added that Angola has a deficit of nine years of schooling, with five years of apprenticeship and the strategy aims to increase this period to six years.
This fact, explains the minister, will ensure that the workforce is not just for the national market, but a global workforce.
To this end, it is necessary to enrich school curricula at different levels, particularly in primary education, which is where the bases are provided for changing the paradigm of social and economic evolution.
In this regard, the Angola 2050 Strategy provides for the extension of pre-school education and nurseries to all neighborhoods and municipalities in the country.
Regarding health, this plan foresees the increase of more hospital units, particularly within the municipalities and neighbourhoods, to be closer to the population
From the point of view of diversifying the economy, the intention is to emphasize agribusiness, which is expected to grow at around 5% by 2050.
These intentions are expressed in the Long Term Strategy – Angola 2050, however the Executive recognizes that the achievement of objectives and targets regarding education will require doubling the weight of investment in the sector in GDP.
“Improving the quality of primary and secondary education is a national goal and a fundamental factor for the population to be able to continue with quality studies for higher education”, he asserted.
Regarding the dialogue with journalists, the holder of the Economy and Planning portfolio considers the journalistic class as a strategic piece for the success of Angola 2050.
The ELP – Angola 2050 is the basic tool for the elaboration of the National Development Plan (PDN), which presents the strategic options for the country’s long-term development, being elaborated based on analysis of scenarios, for the national, sectoral and territorial.
The strategy will bring a global vision to Angola and its role at the international level, in the next 27 years, presenting five (5) priority axes of development as “a society that values and enhances its human capital”, “a diversified and prosperous economy ”, “modern and competitive infrastructure”.
