Africa-Press – Angola. In the last three years, the country registered 9,869 cases of child sexual abuse, of which 4,917 were in Luanda, said, this Thursday, the deputy general director of the National Children’s Institute (INAC), Elisa Gourgel.
Although in the years 2021 and 2022 they have reduced, with three thousand 422 cases registered, the numbers worry the authorities, said the official, when speaking at the III National Forum of Criminal Psychology and the Justice System, which took place at the Instituto Superior de Police and Criminal Sciences.
He referred that the decrease in cases is due to constant awareness campaigns in communities for the need to respect children’s rights.
“We continue to register many cases of intra-family sexual abuse, which relatives prefer to hide out of fear, because sometimes the abuser is the father, provider of goods for the family”, he lamented.
For her part, the ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, defended the execution of the cumulative sentence for child rapists, especially when it results in death, as it configures the crime of homicide and violence against children.
Taking place from the 8th to the 9th of this month, the event aims to discuss the procedures and techniques used in assisting victims and aggressors, from the complaint to the execution of the sentence.
Understanding the specificities in procedural instruction, interrogations, expert examinations and the judgment of crimes of a sexual nature are other objectives of the meeting.
