Africa-Press – Angola. Three hundred and 81 gasoline subsidy cards began to be delivered today, Friday, in the city of Saurimo, to taxi operators and motorcycle taxi drivers in the province of Lunda Sul.
The Angolan Government has set the price of a liter of gasoline at 300 kwanzas, as opposed to 160, a move that does not cover taxis, motorcycle taxi drivers, boats, public transport and the productive sector.
On the occasion, the deputy governor for the Political, Economic and Social sector, Mendes Gaspar, advised taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers to start carrying out their activities with more responsibility.
He said that the cards that were delivered already have a retroactive effect, starting from the date of the 2nd of the current month, hence there is no need for young people to be agitated, with the measure taken by the Executive to subsidize fuel (gasoline).
He appealed to motorcycle taxi drivers to be more serious in their activities and not engage in improper practices, under penalty of the authorities taking action, because the Government is fulfilling the established goals of serving the population.
In turn, the director of the Provincial Office for Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility, Cidália Pires, said that today it was just a symbolic delivery of gasoline cards, since, from now on, it will be in a normal way, with the beneficiaries should go to to municipal administrations.
He informed that the province has so far licensed 1,889 motorcycle taxi drivers and 11 taxi drivers.
He appealed to motorcycle taxi drivers and taxi drivers in the province to join the transport system for better organization, control and management of supply, through registration and mass licensing.
The public transport network in Lunda Sul consists of 18 buses, of which five are out of order and 63 are licensed taxi drivers.
