Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan and Tswana writers, Henrique Sungo and Paula Otukile, will launch on the 17th of this month, at the Iron Palace, in Luanda, their first joint literary work entitled “My Clothes, My Roots.

This Wednesday, Henrique Sungo made it known that the children’s work explores the richness and beauty of African clothing and its value in the cultural identity of each people.

He explained that the book tells the story of a girl called Malaika, who is brave and fanatical about African clothes, who lives with her parents in the housing developments of Gaborone, Botswana.

He went on to say that later Malaika becomes anxious with the promise of going shopping for some clothes with her father, which leads her to embark on a dream full of adventure, where she passes through several countries while maintaining the cultural identity of her clothes.

He referred that the work is the result of research carried out by the writer Paula Otukile to identify the various types of African clothing, especially from countries like Botswana, Nigeria, South Africa and Swaziland.

He stressed that the project started more than a year ago, to give a different air to Angolan literature, it was motivated by educational issues and to show society that more emphasis, affection and bet on African clothing should be given.

He said that, just as each country has its own cultural identity, it is important to teach children the value and respect for the culture of other peoples”.

The artist stated that the idea is to take the stories told in the book to the cinemas, an intention that will materialize next year.

He added that “My Clothes, My Roots” will be sold at a price of five thousand kwanzas (5,000.00), comprises 76 pages, written in Portuguese and English, with 500 copies available for this edition, despite admitting that there are many requests. inside and outside the country.

He pointed out that it counts with the participation of the writer Beni Dya Mbaxi (pseudonym of Bernardo Sebastião Afonso), Esanju Lukende and the Angolan illustrator Mbona Paulo.
