Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic stated that there is no need to change the State of Situation or declare a State of Emergency for the southern region of the country, as defended by some political parties and national and international non-governmental organizations. .

Francisco Furtado said that the conditions created were already producing the desired effects for the mitigation of the main concerns, noting that, with the return of rains in almost all parts of Cunene province, families returned from Namibia began to sow seeds on the ground, with the aim of producing food for their sustenance.

During a few-hour visit to Cunene last Saturday, he also noted the progress of construction works on the Cafu Canal, as part of the Emergency Program to Combat Drought in the province, which is in the process of completing the work.

The Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic reaffirmed that the families welcomed in the center will continue to receive assistance from the Executive, from food, health and seeds for the practice of Agriculture in the space prepared in the surroundings, among other actions.

Furtado indicated that the Executive created classrooms, a health post, agricultural fields and a water system at the Calueque Reception Centre, municipality of Ombadja, province of Cunene, to better assist the more than 750 families returned from Namibia, where had taken refuge because of famine and drought in their areas of origin.

At the head of a delegation to verify for the fourth time the conditions of the families returned from Namibia and the accommodation created by the Government of Cunene, from the erection of new tents, classrooms for children, the installation of a drinking water system, health and the insertion in agricultural projects, the Minister of State highlighted the changes in the lives of the populations affected, until then, by the drought.

“There have been changes from January to the present date. Things are positively well, about 45 days since the center started to receive families returning from Namibia. There is a great evolution in relation to assistance and support to people”, said the also coordinator of the Multisectoral Commission.

Francisco Furtado said that the families welcomed at the center were registered, registered and are being assisted with food. According to the official, conditions were ensured for another 28,300 people around Calueque to be transferred to the municipalities of Cahama and Gambos.

For the official, the work is proceeding at a good pace and the canal will be inaugurated in early April by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to minimize the difficulties of the lack of water, as a result of the severe drought that is registered in Cunene.

The Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic were accompanied by the ministers of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women, Agriculture and Fisheries, as well as Secretaries of State for Health, Energy and Water, as well as the governor of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa.
