Africa-Press – Angola. Angola takes part in the 27th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defense, and Security Cooperation of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The meeting is taking place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on July 24 and 25.
The Angolan delegation is led by Minister of National Defense, Veterans, and Former Combatants João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade.”
Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo is chairing the meeting in his capacity as chair of the Organ’s Ministerial Committee.
At the opening of the meeting, Kombo reaffirmed the need for collaboration between the various SADC structures to solidify the unity and spirit of solidarity among the member states in resolving the region’s challenges. He also reiterated the need to prioritize African solutions to African problems.
The ministers reaffirmed the importance of solidarity among member states and highlighted the need for African solutions to African challenges.
The meeting also discussed the memorandum of understanding on implementing the SADC Conference Declaration in Solidarity with Western Sahara, which reinforces support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
It is also addressing the fragile situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo due to attacks by armed groups, illegal occupation of territory, and a worsening humanitarian crisis.
The meeting welcomed countries that held elections between July 2024 and July 2025: Mozambique, Botswana, Mauritius, and Namibia. It also called for respect of regional norms in the 2025 elections in Tanzania, Malawi, and the Seychelles.
It is expected to conclude with a reaffirmation of support for regional candidates in international organizations, emphasizing the role of the selection process in strengthening the region’s presence in multilateral organizations.
