Africa-Press – Angola. Around 184 million 65 thousand 193 kwanzas were financed by the Administration of the Port of Luanda, in two projects in the provinces of Luanda and Bengo, within the scope of the company’s social responsibility.

In a press release, the company says it is a community kitchen built from scratch in the Boavista neighbourhood, in Luanda, and a Rehabilitation and Reinsertion Center for Drug Addicts reclassified in the Kapari area, in Bengo, for the minimization of difficulties of a social nature, experienced by the surrounding communities.

Regarding the community kitchen built in 14 months, the company says that the goal is to help around 500 people from the most needy families who live in the perimeter of the project.

“Minimize the food vulnerability of families, aggravated, above all, by the Covid-19 pandemic, whose effects across the country resulted in the destruction of many jobs, which made life more difficult in underdeveloped neighborhoods”, asserts the note.

After Boavista, chosen because it is located within the port community, advances the report, the Administration of the Port of Luanda intends to extend the project to other neighborhoods that are in its area of jurisdiction, in response to the appeal of the United Nations Global Compact that urges companies to carry out initiatives that help communities.

As for the requalification of the Center for Rehabilitation and Reinsertion of Drug Addicts, adds the document, the goal is to support the Government’s public initiative for the identification, treatment and dignity of people “interned there, whose lives are negatively affected by the unrestrained consumption of alcoholic beverages”.

“In addition to being expanded, the center now has rehabilitated female and male wards, a gym built and equipped for the use of internal and service staff, as well as a pigpen and a chicken coop built for raising pigs and poultry”, emphasizes the document.

The Port of Luanda has its activity framed in the transport, logistics, supply chain and storage segment, being the largest logistics platform in Angola and the main entry and exit port for goods in the country.

The company has General Cargo, Multipurpose, Container, Multipurpose, Fuel, Passenger terminals and a Support Base for Petroleum Activity.

Its management model is the Land Lord Port, in which the operation of the terminals is controlled by private entities, regulated and supervised by the Port Administration, personified by Empresa Portuária de Luanda – Empresa Pública, which has existed for 78 years.
