Diplomat points to stability as a key requirement

Africa-Press – Angola. The permanent representative of Angola at the UN, Francisco José da Cruz, pointed to stability as a key requirement for regional development.

The diplomat also pointed out the stabilization of the African region as a central aspect of Angola’s diplomatic action.

In conversation with UN News, in New York, the diplomat addressed topics such as the fight against terrorism and the economy in Portuguese-speaking nations.

For Francisco José da Cruz, this is the time to give priority to efforts for the international community to collaborate so that Africa can meet the goal of stopping conflicts, a key requirement to advance towards regional development.

For this reason, the ambassador defends a combination of cooperation with the United Nations in matters of peace and security in the Central, Southern and Great Lakes regions, so that the effects are reflected throughout the neighbourhood.

“We defend the need, in our interaction at the level of the United Nations, to be able to defend with more energy, the decisions that are taken at the level of the African Union”, he referred.

Angola presides over the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), for which it advocates broad action to address fields such as development and economics.
