Africa-Press – Angola. The ambassador of the United States of America (USA) to Angola, Tulinabo Salama Mushingi, said Tuesday that there are “strong relations” between the two countries, 30 years after his elevation to the diplomatic level.
Speaking on the occasion of the 247th anniversary of his country’s independence, celebrated on 4 July this year, the diplomat said that the partnership between the US and Angola “has grown a lot”, as a result of the commitment of the leaders of both States.
He referred that, while seeking to create a prosperous shared future, US efforts are focused on three main pillars, namely prosperity, good governance and security.
As an example, Tulinabo Mushingi mentioned the inauguration of the Lobito Corridor concession, which the government of his country will finance with US$250 million.
He said it was one of the most important infrastructure projects in Angola in strategic terms.
“This is and will be the biggest and first investment by the DFC (International Devolopment Finance Corporation) in Angola and the first investment in a railway project in Africa”, he said.
According to the representative of the American Government, his country is willing to share the lessons learned during the 247 years of Independence, particularly in the domain of democracy as a political system that guarantees prosperity and sustainable development.
He underlined that “the bridge of the future is the democratic bridge”, but that this must be a democracy that produces positive results for its people.
On the other hand, he said, strong democracies benefit from transparency and accountability and that, for that reason, the US is proud to support Angola’s commitment to eradicate corruption.
He added that Angola’s leadership in building transatlantic peace and regional stability aims to protect the people against threats, whether public health, political instability or terrorism.
In the field of economic cooperation and investments, the diplomat recalled that, currently, American companies such as Chevron and ExxoMobil, in the oil sector, and others focused on renewable energies, including the photovoltaic power stations of Baía Farta and Biópio, operate in Angola. , in Benguela.
He added that American investment in Angola also covers the telecommunications sector, through the mobile operator Africell, now with 7.7 million customers, as well as the new Afrimoney program with 250,000 agents, among others.
For the ambassador, it is a priority for his Government to build a future without barriers between the two countries over the coming years, as well as to strengthen trade diplomacy, security and good governance and improve the business climate.
