PR confirms the progress of works on the National Center for Maritime Surveillance

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, confirmed this Thursday, in Luanda, the level of execution of the works of the National Center for Maritime Coordination and Surveillance, located in Barra do Cuanza, infrastructure with a global physical execution in order of 36.44 percent.

During his stay on site, the holder of the Executive Power, accompanied by members of the Government, was informed by those responsible for the work about the progress of the works, consigned to September 11, 2019.

With a contractual value budgeted at US$60,947,470, the project has a financial execution of around 80 percent and is, specifically, located on National Road (EN) 100, in the municipality of Belas, Ramiros neighborhood, zone of Palmeirinhas, about nine kilometers from Barra do Cuanza.

The future National Center for Maritime Coordination and Surveillance is being built in a total area of ​​32 hectares, including the space reserved for expansion.

The infrastructure includes an administrative building, medical station, cafeteria, gym, dormitory and streets.

The aim of the project is to create facilities capable of accommodating technical equipment for maritime surveillance of the Angolan coast and when completed it should be managed by the Angolan Navy.

Angola has a coastline of 1,650 kilometers from north to south, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean.

The non-completion of the work, within the initially foreseen period (December 2020), caused the contract to undergo an addendum in September 2021.

The construction of the infrastructure is part of the Angolan Executive’s project that aims to provide the Angolan Navy with modern means, to better respond to the sector’s challenges, including in the country’s Exclusive Maritime Economic Zone.
