Africa-Press – Angola. The fourth edition of the Forum Journalism Award will focus, for the first time, on works by professionals focused on success stories of women residing in rural areas and impacted by the exploitation of natural resources.
The initiative of the Forum of Women Journalists for Gender Equality (FMJIG) aims to encourage professionals to produce articles that address the social reality of populations, in particular rural women, taking into account the issue of gender equality and highlighting the importance of theme for the sustainable development of the country.
With the award, the organization intends to continue encouraging journalists to prioritize, in the themes of their agendas, the social reality of communities and the social inclusion of women with investigative reports or in-depth approaches, in order to foster spaces for discussions and the search for solutions.
This Friday, the director of the FMJIG project management office, Madalena Alexandre, referred that in previous editions the focus was on rural women based on their economic and social situation, in general terms.
The official who was speaking at the launch and presentation of the fourth edition of the award for potential participants in Huíla, said that journalists who apply should focus on the reality of rural women, in places where the extraction of natural resources is practiced.
“Many women in these localities need help, they do not have access to school, health services, land, the minimum basic conditions for survival, according to a survey that the organization carried out, hence the focus on this approach, so candidates must go to the rural areas and portray their real situation on a daily basis to support their families”, he continued.
Reports published in national media, in Portuguese, will be taken into account in two categories, Journalist of the Year and Career Prize, the first of which is awarded to a professional in recognition of the excellence of the work carried out throughout the year, whose approach meet the established criteria.
The second category is attributed to an Angolan journalist with at least 25 years in the exercise of the profession in recognition of the work developed throughout his career and who has better promoted general or specific knowledge on topics related to equality between men and women, inclusion social, among others.
He stressed that the jury is made up of five elements, four of which are journalists and a member of civil society, and candidates must send their works to the organization’s email by December 7, works published on January 1, 2023 on November 30 of the same year, in the press, radio, television and digital media
Madalena Alexandre made it known that Lubango was chosen because Huíla is a national reference in terms of journalistic quality, with professionals capable of producing and guaranteeing satisfactory results.
The jury evaluates taking into account respect for professional ethics and deontology, quality of the text, image, edition, social focus, among other evaluation criteria. The gala is expected to take place between the months of January and February in Luanda.
The three galas were held in Luanda, but the organization is studying the possibility of choosing other provinces for the award event in future editions.
In the third edition, an average of 10 competitors from the provinces of Zaire, Luanda, Bengo, Cuanza Sul, Lunda Sul, Huambo, Benguela and Cuando Cubango participated. The journalist of the year was Paulina António do Zaire and the career prize was awarded to Josefa Lamberga.
