Africa-Press – Angola. The administrators of Lubango, Gambos and Chibia consider today, Monday, that the project to combat drought in Huíla, which covers the three municipalities, when implemented effectively and within the defined time, will constitute a lever for reduce water shortages.
The Executive’s project, to be implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Water, foresees several actions that will benefit more than one million inhabitants, 725 thousand head of cattle and irrigate 10 thousand hectares in the three municipalities, an initiative to be developed in the period 2023- 2035, and is currently in the resource mobilization phase.
When reacting to the launch of the contract that will solve the problems of the effects of the drought in the three municipalities, whose project was presented last Friday to the Huila community, the three managers augur its rapid implementation, as the population grows daily and the lack of water gets worse.
The administrator of Lubango, Lisender André, said it was a project that meets concerns for what has currently been a constant, the deficit of water in the municipality, due to the weak production capacity.
“It is a solution that combines several strategies in terms of action, such as the use of groundwater and its main courses in Lubango. When implemented, it will minimize the problem in the municipality, as there is the prospect of increasing production capacity and increasing sources,” he said.
In the same vein, the administrator of the Gambos, Francisco Barros, stressed that it is an ambitious project that will satisfy the expectations of the population, as the municipality is known as “the one of drought and hunger”, however this project will mitigate the problems that communities have been living.
He reinforced that the administration will continue to develop actions with related entities and partners so that the difficulty of water in the municipality is solved, as it is a secular problem and concerns everyone, both the State and the populations.
In turn, the administrator of Chibia, Sérgio da Cunha Velho, said that the project represents a gain mainly for the more inland area, foreseeing placing dams in the three communes, one of which, Quihita, will benefit from a new dam.
“Let’s see when it starts to see if the work materializes as quickly as possible, the population is waiting to have the structures and be able to benefit from water”, he stressed.
