Africa-Press – Angola. National Civil Aviation Authority of Angola (ANAC) and the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a view to establishing air connections between the two countries.
Negotiations of the memorandum, which expresses the intention of the two countries, took place from 6 to 7 July 2023, in Luxembourg. The same foresees the designation of the airlines to operate, in the framework of routes, with traffic rights of 3rd and 4th freedom, for passengers, and of 5th Freedom for the transport of Cargo.
The memorandum, signed by the president of the Board of Directors of ANAC, Amélia Domingues Kuvíngua, opens opportunities for airlines to operate seven (7) weekly frequencies of passengers and seven (7) weekly frequencies of cargo.
The Freedoms of the Air are a set of commercial aviation rights that grant airlines from one country permission to enter and land in the airspace and territory of another country. There are nine Freedoms of Air.
The 3rd Freedom of the Air grants the right to transport passengers and cargo from the territory of the State of nationality of the aircraft to the territory of the other Contracting State.
The 4th, in turn, gives the right to transport passengers and cargo from the territory of the other Contracting State to the territory of the State of nationality of the aircraft.
And the 5th, grants the right to transport passengers and cargo between the territory of the other Contracting State and the territory of a third State, within the scope of an air service destined for or coming from the State of nationality of the aircraft.
The negotiations, as well as the signing of the memorandum, were also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union, Mário de Azevedo Constantino.
