Africa-Press – Angola. The Support League for the Integration of the Disabled (LARDEF) needs, in Benguela province, more than 300 wheelchairs to facilitate the mobility of its members, said its local coordinator, Filipe Chita, this Tuesday.
According to the person in charge, the means of compensation are difficult to acquire in the local market, being visibly associated with dragging themselves on the ground to move around.
Filipe Chita said that, in the past, chairs were provided by NGOs such as RAPED or Fundo Lwini, but due to some difficulties, they stopped supporting the disabled in Benguela.
He recalled that, in 2022, 125 wheelchairs were distributed in the communities of Catumbela and Baía Farta, means provided by the companies MCA and PRODEL
“These means today help a lot in the mobility of some associates and the joy on these people’s faces is visible”, he emphasized.
He made it known, on the other hand, that, within the scope of a project financed by the European Union, of economic integration and income generation, 20 professional kits were delivered to the physically disabled, an action preceded by training on business management .
“People selected by communities living in extreme economic need were contemplated, with LARDEF also supporting with some goods to start a business and stabilize with their families”, he said.
Among others, chests, bale balloons, sewing machines and food products requested by the beneficiaries, according to the reality of each neighborhood, were delivered.
