Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministerial Committee on the Scale of Assessment and Contributions and the Members of the African Union (AU) Technical Committee of Experts assessed, Monday, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the actual framework of financial contributions from Member States.
The meeting, held in virtual format, was chaired by the Angolan Minister of Finance, Vera Daves, and analyzed the options for the Assessment Scale and AU Contributions for the three-year period 2024-2026.
At the opening of the meeting, the Angolan official said that the continental organization is experiencing difficulties in relation to the general budget of the current financial year, resulting from the tendency of payment of 50% of the statutory contributions by the Member States.
He explained that the fragility stems from the influence of external shocks, which give rise to economic and financial pressures in Africa, which has not yet recovered from the impacts of the Covid 19 pandemic
. other factors that currently register as the cause of this situation.
The session approved the draft report produced by the meeting at ambassadorial level, presented by the Permanent Representative of Angola to the African Union, Ambassador Miguel CeĢsar Domingos Bembe.
The African Union (AU) was founded in 2002, with headquarters in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), occupying the place of the former Organization of African Unity, the latter active since 1963.
With the aim of preventing conflicts in the region and, at the same time, promoting the development of the continent, the AU seeks, above all, to accelerate the process of integration of African countries.
The organization has several bodies to act in different areas and has the presence of all 55 African countries.
