Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, congratulated the people and the French Government on the National Day of France, which is celebrated today, Friday.

In a congratulatory message sent to his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, the Head of State stressed that the date “symbolizes the courage, the patriotic and combative spirit of your people, who have always had at the heart of their aspirations the construction of a nation based on on the principles of liberty, equality, fraternity and unity of Gallic citizens”.

He noted that it is satisfying to note that France plays a central role in the international context in which initiatives aimed at solving sensitive problems of contemporary political, economic and financial relations stand out.

In the message sent to his French counterpart, João Lourenço expressed the need to intensify and reinforce bilateral cooperation between Angola and France, in vital areas capable of boosting Angola’s progress and development, as well as strengthening France’s mechanisms of action in for the promotion of the well-being of mankind.

President João Lourenço also expressed the interest of the Angolan Government to continue to maintain the close ties of friendship that unite the two countries, as well as the dynamic that was decided to imprint in the bilateral relationship, with the aim of expanding all existing partnerships, which extends to new areas of joint and coordinated action between Angola and France.

“Please accept, Excellency, my best wishes for good health, personal well-being and prosperity for the French nation”, concluded the Angolan statesman, in the message.

France has maintained diplomatic relations with Angola since this nation achieved independence (1975). A first agreement signed in 1982 laid the foundations for this bilateral cooperation.

France is one of Angola’s main economic partners, with a very strong presence in the oil sector and intends to expand cooperation in various areas.

More than 70 French companies operate in Angola and provide around 10,000 jobs.
