High-Level Meeting assesses Angolan food system

Africa-Press – Angola. A High Level meeting with the aim of presenting the assessment made around the Angolan food system took place this Friday in the country’s capital.

This event is part of the preparatory process for assessing the UN-2023 food systems, whose global assessment meeting will take place in Rome, Italy, from the 24th to the 26th of this month.

The high-level meeting was chaired by the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, on behalf of the holder of the portfolio, Teté António, and brought together representatives of the Angolan State apparatus and specialized agencies of the United Nations. (UN).

The assessment exercise carried out is based on the Angolan food system platform and is in line with the deliberations issued at the UN Summit on Food Systems, held in 2021.

The aforementioned Summit guided countries and interested parties to hold, every two (2) years, an evaluation meeting to assess the progress achieved in the implementation of the results of this process and their contributions to achieving the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.

The high-level meeting was an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Program (WFP) and the United Nations Fund Nations for Children (UNICEF) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
