Ambassador discusses strengthening cooperation between Angola and the UN

Africa-Press – Angola. The Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations, in New York, Francisco José da Cruz, this Wednesday discussed with the Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and UN Legal Counsel, Miguel de Serpa Soares, issues related to enhanced cooperation.

During the meeting, the two entities took advantage of the occasion to explore the possibility of training and inserting Angolan staff in the United Nations Department of Legal Affairs.

The two entities also addressed the process of ongoing reforms introduced by the Secretary General of the United Nations, with a view to accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Portuguese Miguel de Serpa Soares was appointed as Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and Adviser to the UN on 7 August 2013.

He has extensive experience in the legal sector, including a deep understanding of international political sensitivities and innovative approaches to negotiation, having represented his country in various international bilateral and multilateral forums.

Born in Angola in 1967, Miguel Serpa Soares holds a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (1990), where he also held the position of Assistant Professor from 1989 to 1993.
