Paraweightlifting: Angola seeks pass to the Paris2024 Paralympic Games

Africa-Press – Angola. The National Weightlifting Team will be present at the World Championship, to be held from 20 to 30 August, in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), in the quest to qualify for the “Paris 2024” Paralympic Games.

The Angolan team made up of Pedro Adão, a bronze medalist, and Mauro Luís, sixth in the African Championship, will head to the competition stage on Sunday, where they will compete in the 49 kg category each.

Speaking to the press, at the ceremony for handing over the national flag, held at the Sports Gallery, in Luanda, coach António Baltazar, said that the aim of the competition is to be among the top 12 classified, qualifying for the Paralympic Games.

The act was guided by the National Director of Sports, Nicolau Daniel.

He indicated that the group evolved in terms of resistance, surpassing the load volume of the previous African, from 125 to 150kg (Pedro Adão) and 115 to 125 (Mauro Luís).

This is the first presence of Angola in the World Cup, after having competed in the remaining two editions of the African competition, in 2015, in Congo Brazzaville, having placed ninth, and, in 2022, in Egypt, where it obtained the bronze medal and sixth place.

The National Director of Sports, Nicolau Daniel, urged the athletes to maintain the competitive pace in the world competition, given the positive results achieved at an international level.

He added that the experience demonstrated by the weightlifters conveys hope for reaching the established goal, which is to reach the Paralympic Games.
