Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, was invited, this Monday, for an official visit to Cuba, in order to participate in the Summit of the Group of 77+China, in Havana, between the 15th and 16th of September of this year.

The invitation, already accepted by President João Lourenço, was formulated by the Cuban counterpart, Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who is in Luanda for a three-day official visit, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

The Group of 77+China is a coalition of countries, founded in 1964, and aimed at promoting the collective economic interests of the members, as well as creating a greater capacity for joint negotiation.

Angola and Cuba maintain excellent cooperation relations in various fields, such as security, education, health, transport, public works, construction, oil, sports, culture, tourism and agriculture.

The two States established diplomatic relations on November 15, 1975, four days after Angola’s independence, and a year later signed the General Cooperation Agreement, which led to the creation of the Bilateral Commission.

The Caribbean State has trained many Angolan cadres and aspires to greater involvement in economic cooperation with Angola, the country it supported in the war against the apartheid regime in South Africa.
