Africa-Press – Angola. Petro de Luanda has decided to win all the competitions in which it is involved in this season (2023-24) in men’s senior basketball, according to the team’s coach, José Neto.
Speaking at a press conference, this Wednesday, in the Capital Luanda, marking the opening of the season, he said it was a goal that meets the expectations of the club’s management and the membership.
To achieve this goal, the three-time national champion coach for the “Tricolores” stated that the strategy was to maintain the player base from the previous season.
The coach recognizes the investment made by the club to keep the main players, adding that with a solid group the possibility of aiming for victories is greater.
In addition to maintenance, José Neto reinforced the squad with two players, center Cléusio Castro (from Sangalhos de Portugal) and winger Keneth Manuel (1.o de Agosto).
Petro starts the season with the Provincial Championship on October 4th, with the participation of nine teams.
On the 14th of the same month, he participates in the “Vlademiro Romero” Super Cup, where he seeks to revalidate the trophy for the fourth consecutive time.
.There will also be the Angola Cup and the African Basketball League (BAL-acronym in English).
In history, Petro de Luanda holds 14 national titles, the last being won in the 2022-23 season.
Accumulated two African trophies from the extinct Basketball Champions Clubs League (2006 and 2015).
Now, in the League version of this same competition (BAL), he was placed third in 2022 and runner-up in 2023.
