Africa-Press – Angola. Coach Filipe Cruz returns to the technical command of the senior men’s national handball team, four years after leaving this position.

According to a source from the Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND), the hiring of the coach of the 1.o de Agosto main team is exclusively due to Angola’s participation in the African Championship, to be played in January 2024, in Egypt.

The new coach takes over, José Pereira “Kidó”, after two years of work. The Interclube coach will assume the role of advisor to the federation’s management.

In the competition, the coach will have the mission of qualifying Angola for the World Championship, where he was already present in the 2005 (Tunisia), 2017 (France) and 2021 (Qatar) editions.

Filipe de Carvalho Pinto da Cruz, also known as Filipe Cruz, 54 years old, led the women’s National Team that came eighth at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

He led the national team to win the 2016 African Women’s Handball Championship. In the same year, he won the African Men’s Handball Championship.
