Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA Provincial Committee in Lunda Norte highlighted this Monday the technological advances of the Angola Press Agency (ANGOP), encouraging the expansion of multimedia services within the country, with a view to expanding its reach.
In a congratulatory note, on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the country’s only news agency, the MPLA highlights that as a result of technological and technical investments made in recent years, this body has improved services, facilitating access to information, through several digital platforms, with emphasis on social networks.
“ANGOP has played a capital role in news coverage across the entire territory of Angola, without neglecting the concern of keeping Angolans spread across the most diverse parts of the world informed about the National and International reality”, the note reads.
The party encourages the agency to strive for the exercise of plural, rigorous and impartial journalism in which respect for the principles of deontology and professional ethics prevails, as factors in safeguarding constitutional rights in matters of freedom of expression and the press.
“The MPLA in Lunda-Norte recognizes ANGOP’s sense of zeal, dedication and professionalism in promoting and disseminating information that helps to rescue the civic and patriotic values of Angolans”, reads the letter.
The party hopes that ANGOP will consolidate its position as a credible and privileged source of information in witnessing the political, social, economic and cultural transformations taking place “in the new Angola”.
For its part, the provincial government congratulates the collective of ANGOP workers in its message, reiterating its institutional support.
According to the message, ANGOP has been fundamental in publicizing the local government’s actions and attracting investment to the province, “which makes it a true social partner”.
In the note, the government emphasizes that it will continue to make efforts to support the local delegation, as far as possible, with a view to continually improving working conditions and beyond.
ANGOP was created in July 1975, under the name Agência Nacional Angola Press (ANAP). At first, his works were distributed in the form of a printed bulletin, until, on October 30th of the same year, he launched his first telegraphic dispatch.
On December 2, 1975, the agency adopted its current and definitive name “Agência Angola Press”, launching, on this date, its first dispatch with the acronym ANGOP.
On February 2, 1978, it was transformed into a State body, through a presidential decree.
From an informational point of view, ANGOP opted, in 1991, to broadcast its work 24 hours a day, and also introduced innovations in editorial and technical terms.
ANGOP has delegations in the 18 provinces of Angola and correspondents in several municipalities. Abroad, it has correspondents in Portugal and Canada.
