The vice-governor of Cabinda, for the Technical Sector and Infrastructures, Agostinho da Silva, asked the peasants in the commune of Tando-Zinze, municipality of Cabinda, to dedicate more time to cultivating the land, increasing productive capacities, to improve the supply of rural products in the markets.
Agostinho da Silva spoke, Tuesday, in that border commune, as part of the opening of the 2023/2024 agricultural campaign, which kicked off throughout the Cabinda region.
For the governor, the increase in production of rural products serves to combat the current high price index, applied in different markets and, on the other, to combat hunger and poverty and increase family income.
He also mentioned that, in this agricultural year, 59 peasant families are included within the scope of technical assistance for field schools and 112 thousand peasant women are included in value chain projects.
1,700 hectares of land were mechanized and more than 613 tons of various seeds were distributed, including butter and Macunde beans, corn, soybeans and peanuts, as well as improved cassava cuttings. Furthermore, 12 thousand different work tools were given to the peasants, including hoes, machetes, files, rakes, small modern farming machines, motor pumps, sprayers and fertilizers.
In 2022, 1,300 hectares of land were prepared throughout the province with the assistance of 38,000 families and 200 tons of various seeds, farming tools, distribution of animals to promote animal protein in communities, in addition to inputs and other artifacts to support field activities, with emphasis on crops such as soybeans and corn, two components that are promoting livestock farming and the introduction of improved breeds of chicken, goats and pigs.
