Africa-Press – Angola. The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, praised this Wednesday, in Port Louis, the reconciling role of President João Lourenço, within the framework of stability and pacification in the region of the Southern African Community (SADC).
As Champion for Reconciliation and Peace in Africa, the Angolan Head of State has been engaged in actions for the pacification of the continent, especially within the scope of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL) and other areas.
Speaking at a meeting with the heads of delegation from the countries present at the 54th Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth took the opportunity to ask the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, to advocate in favor of increasing cooperation between Angola and the Islands Mauritius.
The official stated that his country is ready to guarantee higher education for young Angolans in technical and local administration areas, among others linked to the diversification of the economy.
Pravind Kumar Jugnauth also highlighted that resilience and the improvement of services and good practices to face natural disasters, catastrophes and disasters caused by climate change, can be experiences to be shared in the future between the two countries.
“The study of prevention of risk situations, mitigation strategies, evacuation of land erosion, waste transformation strategy and environmental crisis are experiences from a developing oceanic country that can be useful to countries like Angola, with a vast coastline sea and a varied ecosystem, with mitigating measures to reduce greenhouse effects to particularly promote agriculture”, he said.
For her part, Carolina Cerqueira said that at parliamentary level, relevant legislation is being approved to protect the environment and mitigate and adapt to risk situations.
Carolina Cerqueira reported, on the other hand, that the population has played a participatory role in defending the environment and environmental education, with the country’s associative movement in environmental defense growing.
He reported on the commitment of Angolan deputies to collaborate with the Executive to guarantee resources for the implementation of approved environmental policies.
The Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) was established in 1997 in accordance with Article 9 (2) of the SADC Treaty as an autonomous institution of the region.
It is a regional inter-parliamentary body made up of 15 parliaments, representing more than 3500 parliamentarians in the Southern African region.
