Africa-Press – Angola. The second general commander of the National Police praised, on Sunday, in Benguela, the police’s contribution to maintaining order, security and public tranquility in the country.

Chief Commissioner Domingos Ferreira de Andrade, speaking at the opening ceremony of the II National Conference on the Training of Police Women, which takes place over five days, with the presence of around a thousand women police officers, assured the commitment to raising the professionalism of female police officers. of the corporation, towards achieving excellence in guaranteeing public safety.

Domingos de Andrade said that the corporation, within the responsibility of the State, to prevent, combat crime in the most different forms of manifestation, ensure, defend democratic legality, guarantee and maintain security, tranquility and public order, has been adopting technical and operational for the provision of services at the level of the requirements required by society.

According to the chief commissioner, within the alignment, respecting the social, political and economic context, professionals from the National Police of Angola are required to permanently obtain tools to know, do, be and act in the face of public security needs.

Speaking on behalf of the general commander of the National Police, general commissioner Arnaldo Manuel Carlos, chief commissioner Domingos de Andrade stated that women are the basis of support and support for any society, not just because of their status as mothers and their ability to multiply. generational, but, above all, for being part of all the interactive processes of life.

The prominence of women in society, he said, does not only represent overcoming everyday obstacles, but also determination, positioning and participation in all professional spheres in the most different areas.

When making particular reference to female police officers, Domingos de Andrade said that, in the field of Public Security, integration in operational confrontation missions is visible.

In the field of Force Command and Heads of bodies, he highlighted the approach to promoting gender equality in the National Police, which “represents giving women police officers the same space and opportunity for career advancement”.

Transversality must be understood as a recognition that public policies interfere differently in the lives of men and women, and can reproduce changes in patterns of inequality based on gender.

This assumption, according to Domingos de Andrade, is considered, among others, the condition for changing mentality and the recognition of women as an active social part, capable of contributing and participating in public life.

For this reason, he added, in obedience to the recommendation of the Southern African Police General Commanders Cooperation Organization (SARPCCO), the Angolan Police Women’s Network (Rempa), the II National Police Women’s Training Conference was scheduled, with the objective of increasing the professionalism of female personnel, towards excellent police confrontation in guaranteeing public safety.

Currently, he informed, the National Police of Angola (PNA) has 17,262 female staff, representing 14%. Of this total, 14,597 carry out direct operational actions.

The figures, he highlighted, represent a challenge for female police officers to feel attracted to the permanent training process, in order to enhance skills and competencies, aiming at the stability of their professional career, not only from a quantitative point of view, but also a qualitative one. to ascend to other levels of the hierarchy.

Based on the motto “For effective and efficient action, we train police women”, a “warm and fruitful discussion of the programmed topics is expected, so that the conference produces results and allows participants to leave empowered with knowledge, elevating the importance and the role of police activity in ensuring public security”.

He expressed his recognition to all officers, deputy chiefs, agents and civilian workers of the National Police, for the effort they have made and the sacrifice they have made, as well as the readiness they have always demonstrated in carrying out their missions.

Implementation and consolidation of strategies

The president of the Police Women’s Network, chief commissioner Elisabeth Maria Rank Frank, recognized, yesterday, the efforts that the General Command management has made in implementing and consolidating strategies linked to gender elevation in the corporation.

When speaking at the event, he explained that the empowerment of women within the PNA, the increase of equitable competition in all spheres of policing and decision-making levels, the fight against crimes against children and women, as well as contribute to a safer nation.

He said that, to achieve these goals, the Police Women’s Network Subcommittee aims to have a professional team of trained and valued women police officers who contribute to the provision of quality services in the corporation.

Currently, he explained, REMPA registers 17,262 women, 11 occupy management positions, 144 command positions and 818 leadership positions: “The picture has gradually improved, taking into account the policies of the General Command. However, this picture is below the recommendations adopted by SARPCCO/SADC and other international organizations”.

Rank Frank highlighted that the Women Police Network conferences fall within the scope of the commitments made by the PNA, in light of the decision of the SADC police chiefs. “This training action aims to provide female police officers with technical, tactical and technological procedures, the elevation of police attitudes and values ​​and to promote the effective and efficient participation of women in the corporation’s activities”, she highlighted.

The event, which takes place in Benguela, he said, constitutes for all “an unequivocal proof of the interest in imparting knowledge, will and desire in carrying out the PNA’s mission, with panache and dedication, towards professional development, capable of corresponding with the strategies of the General Command of the National Police of Angola, aiming to prevent and combat crime”.

The vice-governor for the Technical and Infrastructure sector of Benguela, Adilson dos Santos, praised the PNA’s contribution to maintaining order, security and public tranquility.

“Women’s fight for massification, recognition and gender equality is a process that has achieved great achievements and has contributed greatly to the development and progress of societies”, highlighted Adilson dos Santos.

The ruler considered it possible to change a person’s life, as long as more work opportunities were provided.

During the event, demonstrations were made of various National Police techniques, from canine technique, cavalry, road and traffic, rapid intervention, criminal investigation, inspection, among others.
