Africa-Press – Angola. Counting hours to their debut in the 26th World Championship, the Pérolas, the name of the senior women’s national handball team, enjoy a great atmosphere, marked by motivation, camaraderie and health, according to assurances from Nair Almeida, head of the Angolan delegation in Stavanger, preliminary group headquarters D.
Today, as vice-president of the Angolan Handball Federation, the former member of the National Team uses few words to describe the Pearls’ current situation, after playing three games in the Four Nations tournament.
“They are all very well and ready for the World Cup”, he assured.
On the part of the technical team there is always something missing. Vivaldo Eduardo and Nelson Catito are demanding of themselves and, no matter how much others affirm the team’s readiness, their speech is always cautious.
“The feeling is always positive, because not everything is done in such a short time. All work follows thorough and methodical processes. Those who have faith, trust in the work always carried out with a high patriotic spirit”, commented Nelson Catito, spokesperson for technical team.
The coach pointed out that “he has not yet defined the name of the athlete who will be left out in the first game”. The team is made up of 17 players and only 16 can be registered for each game.
Today, in the only work session, the technical team will insist on improving aspects such as the defense-attack transition and defensive recovery.
Tomorrow, Angola will face France, runner-up in the world, in the opening of preliminary group D.
In the second round, the African champions face Slovenia and close the first phase against Iceland.
As part of the preparation, the National Team faced, in the Posten Cup, similar teams from Norway, Poland and Iceland between the 23rd and 26th of this year. Participation in the tournament resulted in two defeats and one victory. The losses were against Norway (24-32) and Poland (30-33). Angola beat Iceland 27-24.
