Africa-Press – Angola. The meeting between President João Lourenço and his counterpart from the United States of America (USA), Joe Biden, scheduled for Thursday, 30th, is receiving special attention in the international media.

In their news, media outlets from several countries mention the visit of the Angolan Head of State to Washington, considering the meeting “historic” and a reinforcement of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Jornal de Negócio and Diário de Notícias de Portugal announced Biden’s meeting with João Lourenço, highlighting the North American President’s commitment to Angola, especially regarding the Lobito Corridor.

For its part, Voice of America (VOA) highlights that the meeting between the Angolan and American statesman aims to mark 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The VOA website also highlights that Joe Biden and João Lourenço will discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, climate and energy investments and the announcement of investment in the Lobito Corridor.

Radio France International (RFI) emphasizes the fact that the meeting between the two leaders, at the White House, derives from more active diplomacy undertaken by the Angolan Executive since João Lourenço took power in Angola, in 2017.

The meeting between the two statesmen is part of the celebrations of 30 years of diplomatic relations between Angola and the United States of America, which began on May 19, 1993, when the former North American President, Bill Clinton, made official the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The meeting’s agenda includes, among other issues, the approach to bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, climate and energy, and in particular the development of the Lobito Corridor, which will connect Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC ) and Zambia.
