Two athletes represent Cunene at São Silvestre

Africa-Press – Angola. Athletes Carlos António and José Eduardo, both individual, will represent the province of Cunene, in the 67th Edition of the traditional end-of-year pedestrian race, “São Silvestre”, taking place on the 31st of this month, in the city of Luanda.

The information was provided this Thursday, by the president of the Cunene Provincial Athletics Association, Agnaldo Ndemulikwata, stating that the selected athletes have been intensifying their preparation for two months, in order to present a good performance and allow them to perform proof worthy.

The person in charge added that the conditions for traveling to the competition site are being created, and they intend to arrive earlier so that they can get used to the climate and the route.

The province of Cunene was present three times in the São Silvestre race, with athlete José João, in 2018, 2019 and 2022, in the country’s capital, having occupied 64th position in the last one.

The 66th edition was won, for men, by Kenyan athlete Raphael Olekei, with a time of 31 minutes, and for women, by Ernestina Paulino, from Interclube, with 35 minutes and 24 seconds, after covering 10 kilometers.

São Silvestre is a pedestrian street race held annually in the city of Luanda, on December 31st and features national and foreign athletes.
