Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, said on Sunday, in Malabo, that Angola passed on to Equatorial Guinea the testimony of an Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP) in full transformation.
The Angolan diplomat was addressing the press, in the aftermath of the XI Summit of Heads of State and Government, held from March 28 to 29, in Malabo, capital of Equatorial Guinea.
At the summit, Angola ended the rotating presidency of the bloc of 79 countries, and President João Lourenço handed over the official instruments of transfer to the Equatorial Guinean head of state, Teodoro Obiang Nguema.
Angola made its contribution to the full transformation of the OEACP, which is reflected in the award given to the President of the Republic, “which was the resilience award”, he emphasized.
“Resilience”, he said, because the Angolan presidency received the organization in very difficult circumstances, but leaves the basis for, from now on, the organization with its 79 countries from the global south, across three continents, to constitute an important voice in the international arena.
“(…) The bases we left are a new headquarters, a resource mobilization mechanism, currently directed by King Swati III, a consultation mechanism – therefore the troika – irregular meetings”, he listed.
For Téte António, the summit ended with “relevant results from the point of view of the organization’s biggest problem, which is financing, which is quite crucial.
At the round table on the organization’s financing, it obtained around more than 13 million dollars in voluntary contributions, in addition to statutory contributions given by Member States.
He also highlighted the Youth, Business and Women forums, small countries and developing islands.
According to the official, the Final Declaration portrays an organization in full revitalization, namely the strengthening of the secretariat itself, including a study on its relocation to a Member State, leaving Brussels, where it was implemented as an ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) as a cooperation mechanism with the European Union.
Today, as it is an international organization (OEACP), it was decided that the structure would, logically, be installed in a State in Africa, the Caribbean or the Pacific.
The role of the OEACP in strengthening multilateralism and the need to take its voice where it should be heard was also reaffirmed.
That is, through the organization and permanent bodies in New York, Brussels, multilaterals, Geneva, Africa, Vienna, Austria, among other spaces, he said.
Téte António mentioned Trade and Industrialization, as a hotly debated topic during the Business Forum, looking at diversification, digitalization and financing, the role of the private sector, critical minerals, and the transformation of the value chain.
“We think we leave here with a clear idea of the organization’s path and where we want to go,” he said.
The government official stated that Angola will continue to make its contribution in the following years and through all generations.
