Lack of funds compromises the participation of a Lunda Sul group in Carnival

Africa-Press – Angola. The lack of funds and support materials, to prepare the Entrudo for the 2024 edition, threatens to compromise the participation of the carnival group “Assanhados do Tchizainga” from Saurimo, in the province of Lunda Sul, second placed in 2023.

As part of the group’s preparation for the next edition, its leader, Tetela da Silva, maintained that the value of the Group’s membership fees “is insufficient” for a preparation worthy of competing “on an equal footing” with other “more popular” groups.

He indicated that the existing budget “is not enough” to acquire fabrics for sewing clothing, footwear, preparing the float and other adornments, to convince the public and the increasingly demanding jury.

He stated that, despite this, the group remains united and in an “incessant search” for sponsorship, so that it can recapture the mystique of the victories of previous years.

Tetela da Silva also stated that, if supported, the Group intends to compete with two others, one from Saurimo and the other from the municipality of Muconda, investing in a more attractive choreography and song that encourages families to dedicate themselves to the countryside and to reports of corruption cases.

The group Assanhados do Tchizainga was founded on February 3, 2003, and has a total of 350 members.

It has won nine editions (2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020).
