Africa-Press – Angola. The government of Huíla made available last Friday, 26 million kwanzas to the Cultural Cooperative, for the holding of the provincial Carnival event, taking place on Avenida João Paulo II, in the city of Lubango.

The total budget for Entrudo is valued at 42 million kwanzas, which must be supplemented with sponsorships.

The cultural event, under the motto: “In the lead-up to the 50th anniversary of national independence, with tradition and modernity, peace and democracy, let us celebrate carnival”, has registered 154 groups, 74 of which are children’s groups, 69 in the adult class and 11 entertainment groups..

In an interview in Lubango, the president of the Huíla Carnival Cultural Cooperative, Pedro Mussunda, praised the local Government’s initiative in making the amount available in a timely manner, an act that will give a different way to carrying out the carnival.

He made it known that the allocated funds will be used to pay the winners in both classes, as well as for expenses with transportation, food, purchase of clothing, fuel and various technical and administrative elements.

“In addition to the advance of the 26 million that was allocated to our organization, we are awaiting more monetary amounts at any time, coming from the national guardianship association and other local partners”, he said.

He recalled that the municipal act will take place on March 10th, while the provincial act will take place three days later.

Asked about the registrations made so far, Mussunda stated that Lubango appears with 21 groups, Cuvango with 15, Chibia, Quilengues, Caconda and Gambos with 13, Jamba 12, Matala and Chipindo with 10, Cacula and Humpata with eight, Caluquembe with nine, Chicomba with seven and Quipungo with five sets.

He recalled that last year the biggest popular cultural demonstration of the Angolan people, due to financial difficulties, did not take place, but this year will be different, at a time when group rehearsals have been taking place since the beginning of this month.
