Africa-Press – Angola. A public tender for the installation of pre-paid water meters will be launched in March this year in Luanda, the president of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the Public Company of Waters of Luanda announced this Tuesday (EPAL), Adão Manuel da Silva.
The public manager, who was speaking at the end of an observation visit to the Kilamba Raw Water Pumping Station, stated that pre-paid water meters will be installed, in the first phase, in the centralities of Kilamba and Sequele and in the Maye urbanization Maye.
He explained that the project is already in the final stages, and the new meters should be installed later this year.
From a consumption point of view, he indicated, the project will allow the company greater control and respect for compliance with payment for services.
Improving and ensuring the supply of water to residents in 2024 is one of EPAL’s aims, according to Adão da Silva, who admitted that achieving such objectives depends on the effectiveness of the water supply system and greater coverage..
To this end, he said, more efficient electro-mechanical equipment will be needed in the production and distribution systems, as well as ensuring minimum disruptions in the city, in terms of the capacity to respond urgently to registered faults.
Still within the scope of investments, the person responsible explained that the Bita Raw Water Pumping Station registered an increase in two raw water pumps that take the liquid to the ETA in the centrality of Kilamba, in addition to the assembly of balloons, electrical equipment such as a new electrical panel with six kilwalltes of capacity, starters and other hydraulic accessories.
The first phase of Bita will produce 259,200 cubic meters of water per day, an integrated water supply system, consisting of collection, treatment, adduction and distribution, which will have 100 thousand cubic meters of storage, 65 kilometers of pipelines, 3,700 kilometers of distribution network.
It is planned to create 170 thousand household connections to supply 3.8 million inhabitants in the south and southeast of Luanda, in the municipality of Belas, districts of Quenguela, Vila Verde, Cabolombo, Ramiros and Morro dos Veados, as well as reinforce the Benfica and Camama areas.
The second system is the Quilonga Grande new projects, equally integrated, which will supply 518 thousand cubic meters of water per day, to serve the north and northeast of Luanda, including the municipalities of Viana, Icolo and Bengo and Cacuaco. Both systems have a runtime of 36 months.
