The ministerial meeting takes place at the Munyonyo Conference Center, and prepares all the documentation to be submitted to the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, which should bring together, on Friday and Saturday (19th and 20th), the Heads of State and of the organization’s Government.
At the ministerial meeting, Téte António proposed the creation of an action plan with priority areas of common interest, subject to cooperation in the medium and long term.
During the meeting, led by the vice-president of Uganda, Jéssica Rose Epel Alupo, the Angolan minister called for the creation of a mechanism for monitoring and implementing the decisions taken by Heads of State and Government at similar summits, as well as strengthening the cooperation in the areas of peace and security, climate change, migration, sustainable development and economic growth.
He recalled that challenges at a global level have crossed borders and affected States in the most varied areas, namely political, economic, social and multilateral.
In this sense, he stressed that “no country can exist in isolation, taking into account the growing interdependence between States, and referred that international cooperation has become one of the main tools for developing initiatives for an ever greater sharing of global wealth.
Regarding the motto of the 19th Summit: “Deepen cooperation for shared global influence”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs considered it relevant, as it invites everyone to reinforce cooperation and define proactive strategies to achieve this objective.
For Téte António, there is no development and economic growth without peace and cooperation.
He noted that international cooperation promotes socioeconomic development, the free movement of people and goods and facilitates interaction between States, allowing the sharing of experiences in areas of common interest.
After highlighting the factors that contribute to a peaceful global atmosphere and the values of solidarity, the head of Angolan diplomacy warned of the need for action by the Non-Aligned Movement in a determined commitment to put an end to conflicts in Africa, Europe and in the Middle East, arguing that the right to self-determination must continue to be the central principle of action.
“Our minds are occupied with the suffering of the Palestinian people. The immediate implementation of the numerous resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council is necessary, taking into account the principle of two states, Palestine and Israel, to leave peacefully side by side”, he highlighted.
On the other hand, Téte António, on behalf of the Head of State, João Lourenço, took the opportunity to congratulate the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, for assuming the presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement (MNA), and express support of Angola during his mandate.
Strengthening South-South cooperation to face current challenges
The minister emphasized that Angola defends the strengthening of South-South and triangular cooperation for the challenges the world faces, namely conflicts, pandemics, climate change, rapid demographic changes, social and economic challenges, as well as technological transformations.
“It is essential to define appropriate policies to obtain results for all of us. Likewise, we need to educate, prepare and sensitize the next generation to the challenges that arise in the current context of international cooperation, educating them to give priority to peace and stability as keys to development and sharing global wealth, in collaboration with the work of Member States”, he highlighted.
Cooperation, he highlighted, requires Member States to facilitate this process, including industrial and infrastructure development, integrated and quality networks, accessible services, promotion and facilitation of trade and the establishment of economic partnerships.
Contribution to regional integration
When making a short presentation of the challenges facing the Angolan Executive regarding the creation of infrastructures, the Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the recent inauguration of the New Luanda International Airport “Dr. António Agostinho Neto”, with capacity to transport 15 million passengers and a cargo volume of 130 thousand tons per year, highlighting, by the way, that it will serve Angola and the world.
The Angolan Government, he said, has created conditions to contribute to the regional integration of the African continent, with the Lobito Corridor as a platform that will connect Angola to the Democratic Republic of Congo, with an extension to Zambia.
The Corridor, he added, will boost intra-African exports which, for now, represent only 14% of the total exports to the rest of the world.
“This project is an important and multi-vector geopolitical and geoeconomic milestone for the region and the continent. It covers the mining areas of the DRC and Zambia”, he said.
To those present, the minister also recalled the launch of the ANGOSAT-2 satellite, a technological project that will guarantee full coverage of the national territory and also serve some countries in the regions of Southern Africa and Southern Europe, as well as improving exchange and provide high quality telecommunications services.
