AGT launches “Informal Operations” campaign

Africa-Press – Angola. A campaign on “informal operations”, which aims to promote the formality of economic agents, was launched, this Monday, in the city of Huambo, by the Fourth Region of the General Tax Administration (AGT).

The initiative appears to bring together and align the General Tax Administration (AGT) and clients, at the level of the fourth region, which comprises the provinces of Benguela, Bié, Cuanza-Sul and Huambo, with simultaneous actions to raise awareness and monitor economic operators.

When speaking at the event, the director of the Fourth Tax Region, Paulo Francisco João, said that the campaign is focused on small, medium and large commercial establishments located in informal markets, peripheral neighborhoods and surrounding areas.

He clarified that the intention is to raise awareness and guide taxpayers who carry out commercial activities in warehouses and stores, who have not complied with tax obligations, to pay taxes.

He clarified that the operations do not cover street vendors in the markets, but only warehouses and stores located in informal markets, with a large number of informal workers.

For the measure to be successful, he said all employees in the region and the Customs Tax Police were mobilized, in addition to the support of the media and citizens in general, due to the fact that no one is exempt from paying taxes.

Paulo Francisco João said that the campaign will be developed in three phases, the first being, in two weeks, the survey and awareness raising in commercial establishments, and the second the placement of stamps or seals, which will demonstrate that taxpayers are under monitoring by the AGT.

The last campaign, which will run at least until the end of the first quarter, he said, will be more coercive, which could, in case of non-compliance, result in the closure of the commercial establishment and the payment of heavy fines to the State.

He asked for more dialogue and rapprochement with economic operators and individual taxpayers, to avoid tax evasion, as those who evade may, among the sanctions, see their establishments closed.

The campaign is focused on the collection of Value Added (VAT), Property, Income and Property taxes, with the aim of broadening the tax base and ensuring that, in fairness, everyone voluntarily pays their tax obligations.

He said that the main objective of this initiative is to verify compliance with tax obligations, including VAT, issuance of invoices and property tax, for this purpose, AGT plans to implement measures such as placing seals in stores, ensuring that all commercial establishments and important markets in the capital city are duly regularized.

To this end, tax offices are being created in the markets of Quissala, known as Germany, Kapango, Cacilhas, Cambiote and others, as well as in Caála and Bailundo, in addition to other municipalities in the region.
