Africa-Press – Angola. The municipal administration of Cambambe, Cuanza-Norte, is installing several social facilities in the 10 de Agosto area, aiming to attract new residents to that expansion area of the city of Dondo, headquarters of the district.
Among the equipment already installed in the area are integrated interior services, electricity distribution network and public lighting.
The fact was announced Friday, in Dondo, by the deputy municipal administrator for the Technical Area and Infrastructures, Gelson José Domingos Miguel.
He informed that services are being installed as residents request land for targeted self-construction, to facilitate residents’ adaptation and occupation of the housing area.
Construction work is also underway in the area for a mother and child center and a primary school with 22 classrooms, as well as a primary education establishment.
He highlighted that the idea is to reverse the current model of expansion of housing areas, based on the settlement of populations before the main services, which creates constraints on accommodation.
“Services are being brought to this area, to allow people to follow the administrative dynamics and not the other way around”, he argued.
He said, without giving dates for the start of work, that in addition to these services, there is also a drinking water supply plan, through the construction of a water capture, treatment and distribution station from the Kwanza River, financed by the Ministry of Energy and Water.
The Municipal Administration’s initiative, he said, is being accompanied by private projects, with the installation of economic infrastructures, a fact that is encouraging the participation of citizens.
Currently, the area is inhabited by 65 families, many of which have homes built within the scope of the Construction Program for 200 Homes per Municipality. In Cambambe, 50 were built and the other 15 are private residences.
The housing perimeter of 10 de Agosto has an area of around 500 hectares and was defined, by the Municipal Administration, as an expansion zone for the city of Dondo.
It also welcomes the resettlement project for the 166 families injured in the Cacesse neighborhood, due to the floods of the Capacala River, in 2021, and 66 others to be displaced as part of the rehabilitation works on the two-kilometer section of the aforementioned canal.
