Africa-Press – Angola. The secretary of UNITA in the province of Huambo, Apolo Yakuvela, reiterated, this Saturday, the need for the institutionalization of local authorities throughout the country, for the “quick solution of social problems”.
The supporter, who spoke at the opening of the 2024 Political Year, highlighted that local authorities, in addition to decongesting governance, would greatly help to resolve social problems, linked to education, health, energy and water, which greatly afflict the population.
He added that local authority is also fundamental in resolving problems related to access to fertilizers, promoting agriculture and improving secondary and tertiary roads, as it is local and participatory governance.
Therefore, he highlighted the need for the institutionalization of local authority, to respond to the will of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, who said “The most important thing is to solve the people’s problems”.
This slogan, according to the supporter, should be applied by everyone who cares about the well-being of Angolans and the social and economic development of the country.
Apolo Yakuvela appealed to the Government of the province of Huambo to pay special attention to rural areas, especially in the municipality of Longonjo, where, due to the lack of basic services, agricultural means and lack of food, the population has abandoned their lands in search of better conditions in other locations.
To the UNITA militants, he advised total dedication, dedication and unity, with a view to the upcoming challenges.
In the last general elections on August 24, 2022, according to the definitive results of the National Electoral Commission, UNITA obtained 212 thousand 465 votes in the Huambo constituency, electing two deputies.
