Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA praised this Wednesday, in Luanda, the role of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in diplomatic initiatives for the pacification of the continent, with an emphasis on the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and in the fight against terrorism and unconstitutional changes of Governments in Africa.

In a message commemorating the 2nd anniversary of the institutionalization of the Day of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, which is celebrated, the MPLA Political Bureau highlights President João Lourenço’s commitment to the socio-economic and political-cultural development of the region.

“In particular, for Angola, the 31st of January has a special meaning, marked by the designation of President João Lourenço as Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa”, the note reads.

In this sense, it reaffirms its support for the Angolan Executive to strengthen cooperation with African countries, aiming for consensus on the continent’s major issues, with an emphasis on effective peace.

Considers that the date represents a collective commitment to peace and social cohesion at national, regional and continental levels.

“The MPLA Political Bureau welcomes this occasion, hoping for times to come marked by actions that promote the development of the “Cradle of Humanity Continent”, breaking with existing obstacles, the document adds.

The Day of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa was established following the Declaration of the 16th Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa, held in May 2022 , in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

On the other hand, the National Adjudication Committee (CNA-Angola) of the 2024 SADC Journalism Prize welcomed the date and highlights the commitment of the Head of State, João Lourenço, who two years ago was “honorably designated champion for peace and reconciliation in Africa “.

In his message, he considers this recognition to be a testimony to President João Lourenço’s commitment to promoting peace and reconciliation, not only in Angola, but across the entire African continent.

As a SADC affiliated organization, the 2024 SADC Journalism Prize CNA-Angola applauds and salutes the vital role that President João Lourenço is playing in building bridges, overcoming challenges and promoting cohesion among African nations.

It urges Angolan journalists to continue playing their fundamental role in disseminating information that promotes mutual understanding, tolerance and peace, premises for building a harmonious and prosperous future for the African people.
