Africa-Press – Angola. The Municipal Administrations attached to the province of Zaire were, this Wednesday, instructed to create legal mechanisms to increase local revenue collection levels.

The recommendation is contained in the final communiqué of the meeting of the Provincial Technical Committee of the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty (PIDLCP), which took place on the 29th and 30th of this month in the city of Mbanza Kongo.

The participants concluded that the revenue collected by Municipal Administrations in the 2023 financial year proves to be insufficient to deal with the numerous problems that still afflict local populations, in the most varied areas.

They stated that increasing local revenue levels, through citizen and service portals, contributes to reducing dependence on ordinary resources from the national treasury.

They therefore suggested the creation of Municipal Economic Commissions in order to monitor, evaluate and propose improvements in the revenue collection process.

The meeting of the PIDLCP Technical Committee also recommended the need to pay greater attention to the agricultural sector to reduce poverty rates within the population, as well as strengthening women’s empowerment in the production of food.

The continuous improvement of PIDLCP evaluation and monitoring mechanisms to ensure full compliance with the goals established by the Executive is among the event’s recommendations.

The timely preparation and submission of activity and financial execution reports for the past financial year to accelerate the commitment of financial quotas for this year, as well as the creation of a database by the Municipal Administrations to later be compiled by the Studies Office , Planning and Statistics (GEPE) of the Provincial Government, also appears in the conclusions.

The meeting in which municipal administrators and their deputies participated was chaired by the deputy governor of Zaire for the political, social and economic sector, Afonso Nzolameso.
