President of AN listens to the Angolan community in Cape Town

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, heard, on Wednesday, members of the Angolan community living in Cape Town, South Africa.

At the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Summit on Legislative Supervision between the 30th and 31st of January, Carolina Cerqueira became aware of the specific concerns of the community and informed that, due to the matter, she will take the concerns presented to the 3rd Foreign Relations Commission, International Cooperation and Angolan Communities Abroad from AN, to establish a framework for cooperation and information exchange.

In relation to the exercise of the Consulate’s functions, Carolina Cerqueira referred to the role to be played to honor Angola and promote proximity to the Angolan community in South Africa, support legal and social processes and pass on information about the socio-economic priorities of the country to attract investments in the areas of tourism, agriculture, telecommunications and transport.

The meeting culminated with the signing of the Book of Honor of the Consulate General of Angola and in his message he wished success in the execution of consular work, recommending professionalism and a sense of mission.

Bilateral cooperation

Carolina Cerqueira discussed, with her South African counterpart, Mapisa Nqakula, issues of bilateral interest and political consultation on priority matters on the agenda of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (FP-SADC).

During the meeting, the leader of the Angolan Parliament gave considerations about the inspection process developed by the National Assembly (AN) under constitutional powers and internal regulations, in the field of supervision and complementarity as a guarantee of institutional balance.

Carolina Cerqueira highlighted AN’s role as a Control and Supervision Body, both in approving the General State Budget and approving the General State Account and in the OGE Execution Reports.

He stated that, as a supervisory entity that guarantees the democratic balance between political powers, the AN receives and analyzes reports from judicial and judicial bodies, as well as the Electoral Commission.

Regarding control and inspection action, he said, deputies carry out verification and inspection visits to works registered and being carried out within the scope of public investment programs.

Carolina Cerqueira also said that democracy in Angola is asserting itself through the development of institutions, both in terms of articulation and management of the balance of the political system in relation to other sovereign bodies.

The Angolan delegation, which participated in the Summit on Supervision of the Legislative Sector held in Cape Town between the 30th and 31st of January, was led by the president of AN, Carolina Cerqueira, and made up of deputy Pedro Sebastião, the secretary general of the Assembly National, Pedro Agostinho de Neri.
